The district
of BORT LES ORGUES in the CORREZE department

BORT LES ORGUES :
is a small town with 3,600 inhabitants, located
down in the valley at the foot
of the organs, altitude 437 m. The river Dordogne flows
through it. Since all time, it was the passage place between
Auvergne and Limousin. As the country's centre of trade
with an old tradition of industry, Bort became also an
important centre of regional tourism thanks
to the immense storage lake of the hydro-electric dam
which goes by the name of this city (round-visite gratis).
The organs les Orgues of Bort : important flow
of phonolite, 2 km wide and 80 - 100 m high. It is,
with the Puy de Bort, the best observatory
of the Auvergne Mountains and the Limousin plateau.
Le Saut de la Saule : gorges of the Rhue river

Only the wonderful Chapelle des Manants in Trappes
with the relicts of the old cloister edified
in 1060 remains of the old village Port Dieu, which
has been submerged by Dam and bathing places's water.

the airield of Ussel-Bort is located, is
the ideal place to collect mushrooms in the forests.
VEYRIERES :
its footpaths in the underwood take you to the beautiful
church of XIIth century. Loose stone, menhir.
SAINT BONNET PRES BORT
: in the heart of a green and calm country,
has also a very beautiful Roman church with a polyflapped
portal.
