The 3
communes of the district of TAUVES in the PUY DE DOME
department at the storage lakeside of Dam and bathing
places of BORT
LA BESSETTE : at
the boundary of the department Cantal,
this small borough (altitude 740 m), constructed around
the church of XIIth century, is surrounded with
forests which extend down to the riverside of the Dordogne
and reach
the beach plage de la Grange Haute just at the
beginning
of the gorges. To be visited also : the Camp de César,
natural panoramic terrace on the Dordogne valley. Gold
mines were under exploitation during the XIXth century
in this community.
LARODDE
: long borough on a sunny plateau at almost
800 m, the back turned to the mountain, facing the lake
with a 15 kilometers' shore, and the promenade on the
« peninsula »
of la Renaudie, |
enables
to marvel at one of the most beautiful storage lakes,
its gorges and vis-à-vis
the Correzian site de Port-Dieu. Arranged beach at the
lake shore. Half Roman, half Gothic church adroitly restored.

SINGLES
: constructed
on a promontory which dominates the ground of the Burande
at an altitude of 725 m, well known by its gold-washing,
which is nowadays only a summertime attraction, at the
southern end
the gorges du Chavanon. The river Dordogne flows
up to its source, passing by the gorges
of Avèze which is a canoe-kayak course of national reputation.
The Arpiat dam forms
the end of the storage lake of the Bort dam.
The Moulin de Serre with its camping area brings
a great summer activities programme along. Mines were
