10h00 to 12h30 and from 14h00 to 19h00 (from November
1st till March 31st, fix a date). |
Since centuries the river Dordogne has attracted tanners
in Bort who utilized directly the river's bed to « soak
» their skins. From this nowadays disappeared activity
a museum remains where different machines for the transformation
of leather are exhibited. Showing rounds and videos allow
you to learn everything about the tanner's work starting
from the raw skin and ending with the finished leather.

An important vein of coal meandered through this region
of the Auvergne. The mine
of Champagnac was one of the most important ones. This
museum presents you photographes, mock-ups of 6 sqm, skale
1/150, of the « square » and a mini railway reproducing
the periode
of activity. On the groundfloor in the same building,
each summer you will discover an exhibition of geology
(minerals, lavas, fossiles ...) with commented visites.
A guided tour
(walking or mountain bike) is also at your disposal in
July and August. |
