MEYMAC : Abounding
in slate roofs, with an abbotial church of the XIIth
century and its monastic edifices, its narrow streets
with wunderful granite houses and glamourous relicts
of the past (hall, bell tower, pierced cross, fountain).
This town is the most picturesque
of the whole Haute-Corrèze. Located at the entry of
the plateau de Millevaches,
at the foot of Mont Bessou (984 m), Meymac offers at
the same time the sweetness
of the plain and the beauty of the Limousin mountains.
It is also a cultural centre thanks to
its Centre d'Art Contemporain and its Fondation Marius-Vazeilles.
Take the direction to Tulle via Maussac where you
will find the RN 89 up to :
EGLETONS : This
is a town combining harmoniously old stones and modernism.
Ramparts encircle the borough where the Eglise Saint
Antoine was edified. You must also go to Moustier to
marvel at the ruines of the majestic fortress of Ventadour.
Bernard de Ventadour, the most famous troubadour who
sung about courtly love in the XIIth century, was born
there.
SARRAN : It's here,
next to the castle Château de Bity, residence of the
Président
de la Républic, where the Musée du Septennat
is about to be constructed.

CHATEAU DE SEDIERES :This
elegant Rennaissance castle
of the XVth and XVIth century was very thoroughly
worked
out by Violet le Duc and is at present the property
of the Department who organizes very interesting
exhibitions.
Continue in direction of Clergoux to arrive at :
MARCILLAC LA CROISILLE : This small village
of a granite plateau was an intersection of Roman
ways. It is situated next to the storage lake of

came from the Haute-Dordogne by floating.
This was before the water-power was produced by Dam and bathing placess which had transformed the river.
L’AIGLE : There
is a very beautiful view on Dam and bathing places and down the valley
from the look-out tower built in down-hill.
Pass over to the other riverside by the suspension-bridge

with the magnificent spectacle
on the valley and the storage lake of Aigle by going
up via Sérandon :
NEUVIC
: Old city rich of history where the shadow
of the seigneurs de Ventadour still hangs
in the air. Today, it is a place to relax and a summer
stay with its storage-lake of Triouzoune where you can
practice all nautical sports, and golf.on
the lake-side. The house where Henri Queuille was born
has been transformed into the Musée de la Résistance.
A beautiful panorama is extending from Puy de Manzagol
at 700 m (orientation table)
to Dam and bathing places Neuvic of Ussel.
MAREGES : This dam
impresses in its force and simplicity. It's the oldest
construction
of the Dordogne arrangement.
Continue to Bort via Liginiac and Roche le Peyroux
and pass by :
SAINT JULIEN PRES BORT :
where the marvellous Site de Saint Nazaire is
located
at the confluence of the Diège and Dordogne gorges.
The view is spectacular after a walk
(30 minutes to and back) on a way of the Cross.
Return to Bort, but don't forget to have a stop at
